Both screen printing and DTF transfers create great-looking custom apparel. The best option depends on your artwork, garment, quantity, budget, and the look and feel you want.

Screen Printing

Screen printing uses real ink that is printed directly onto the garment and cured for durability. Each ink color is applied separately, creating a professional, vibrant print made to be worn again and again.

Screen printing is a great choice for:

  • Team, school, staff, and event orders

  • Larger quantities

  • Bold artwork with solid colors

  • Designs with up to 6 ink colors

  • Customers looking for the best value on bulk orders

  • A softer, more traditional printed feel

Because each color is printed separately, screen printing works best with clean, simplified artwork. Gradients and detailed shading can often be created with halftones, but may look a little different from a digital image on a screen.

What it feels like: Ink often has a softer feel, especially on designs with less ink coverage.

DTF Transfers

DTF stands for Direct to Film. Your design is printed in full color onto a specialty film, then heat-applied to the garment. It creates crisp, bright artwork with impressive detail.

DTF is a great choice for:

  • Small orders and one-off pieces

  • Full-color artwork

  • Gradients, shading, and fine details

  • Names, numbers, and personalized items

  • Designs with many colors

  • Artwork that needs to look very close to the original digital design

DTF gives us the flexibility to print detailed artwork without limiting the number of colors. It is a great option when the design is too detailed or colorful for traditional screen printing.

What it feels like: DTF has a smooth transfer layer on top of the fabric. Depending on the size and coverage of the design, it can feel slightly more noticeable than screen printing.

Durability & Care

Both decoration methods are made to be worn and washed.

Screen printing is an excellent choice for long-term, repeated wear. DTF transfers are also durable when cared for properly.

To help any decorated garment look its best:

  • Wash inside out in cold water

  • Use mild detergent

  • Avoid bleach and fabric softener

  • Tumble dry low or hang dry

  • Do not iron directly over the design
